2015 Dodge Challenger SXT Plus Review

The awesome Hellcat and and Scat Pack Challengers have been getting all the press lately, but let’s not forget that the entire Challenger lineup saw major improvements for the 2015 model year. And if you are primarily interested in an affordable, fun, efficient and stylish package that you can drive every day, you should definitely consider the 2015 Dodge Challenger SXT Plus. Mopar Blog had a week with a beautiful TorRed example and came away very impressed.

Let’s talk about the exterior changes first. Inspiration for this refresh came from the 1971 Challenger, with a new vertical split-grille up front. And the posterier received a new split tail-lamp design, again inspired by the 1971 cars. That, combined with a new rear fascia, greatly improves the rear view of the car.

Inside the interior is vastly improved, both in terms of design and materials. We loved the new center console, which now houses many of the audio and climate controls. The new dash houses a very impressive and intuitive 7-inch TFT which is packed with features. The interior is now highly customizable, with more than 14 interior colors and trim options. Generally feel and quality is greatly improved. Basically, this is a  nice place to spend time for up to five people (and yes, three can sit in back, unlike some other “pony” cars).

Ok, so now let’s talk about the drivetrain. No, it ain’t got a Hemi. But the 305 horsepower Pentastar V6 is a very impressive motor, especially when paired with the new 8-speed automatic transmission. Plenty of power around town and a great highway cruiser, too. You’ll see 19 mpg around town and 30 mpg on the freeway–not bad!

The SXT Plus adds very stylish 20 inch wheels and the sport brake package, which are both worthy upgrades to the base SXT. The base price for the SXT PLus is $29,995. Our test car also had a power sunroof ($1,195), Uconnect ($695) and a SXT bodyside stripe ($395). Add in the $995 destination and the total sticker came to $33,275, a reasonable sum for such a great car.
