Ram Truck Rams Fleeing Veloster

A 14 year old kid fleeing the cops in a Veloster he had stolen from his grandparents made several high speed runs though a local park, almost hitting several children in the process. The owner of this Ram truck got tired of it and used his truck to stop the kid in his tracks.

Bryson Rowley was driving the truck, and he said he intentionally used his truck as a ram rod to stop the fleeing vehicle. Rowley provided the picture and videos in this story, and though he did not wish to go on camera he said he acted to end the chase because he was afraid for the safety of his and other children at the park.

“The person driving the truck could see it was turning back into the park, and he did not want the car to hit all of the children, or any of the children, and he actually pulled his truck in the way so the car collided with the truck,” said Officer Erin Behm with the Syracuse Police Department.

Brandy Rowley, Bryson’s wife, spoke about the incident. “My heart dropped,” she said. “I honestly thought one of those kids is going to die.”

Officials said the teen will be taken to a juvenile detention center.

Ram Wins All Star Honors

As reported in Allpar, Automobile magazine has chosen the Ram 1500 as a member of its 2014 All Star list, a list of their 10 favorite passenger vehicles. This is the second consecutive year that the Ram was chosen as well as four of the past five years!

Per their editors “the Ram 1500 defies the limitations of a pickup truck, continuing a spirit of  innovation that began in the mid-1990s, when Chrysler introduced the big-rig  grille and reinvented the way pickup trucks look. Now the Ram has the best chassis in the business, with a coil-sprung rear suspension that offers a  settled ride even with an empty bed. The list of options and the refined  interior rival those of a luxury car. And a new diesel engine – the only one available on a light-duty  pickup—achieves the fuel economy of a mid-size crossover.”

No rebuttal from GM spokesman Jim Cain yet.

Ram Overtakes Chevrolet in Sales

Since 2000, the monthly total pickup sales order has been Ford, Chevrolet and then Dodge/Ram. Not this past March. Ram passed Chevrolet in truck sales to take the number 2 spot. Jim Cain, a GM spokesman, was none too happy and displays poor taste with his response to the news “The 1980s called. They want their marketing strategy back…It’s really easy to deeply discount your truck, mine the subprime market and offer cheap lease deals to buy market share.” Nasty. Read more at Jalopnik.

Ram 1500 EcoDiesel MPG Testing

Fuel economy has taken a bit of a back seat in the last few years in the full-size pickup market, with each manufacturer trying to one-up one another with ever higher horsepower, payload and towing numbers. The first fuel economy salvo was fired by Ford with their 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost in their F-150. There were skeptics until it proved to be a big seller. Never one to simply follow, Ram’s response was a return to the diesel. Motor Trend put the new Ram to the mileage test and the results seem to back up Ram’s reasoning. See the entire test at Motor Trend.
