European Spec Jeep Cherokee Diesel Review

The UK’s Auto Express tested the new Jeep Cherokee equipped with the 2.0 liter diesel, an engine not available stateside. While the engine was deemed to be lacking in refinement when pushed, they gave it high marks for its off-road capabilities, i’s high-tech cabin and for being a top safety pick. 2014 Jeep Cherokee Getting Rave Reviews

Yeah, it looks funky. Yeah, it’s based on an Italian FWD platform. But, it sounds like it might be pretty darn good. Motor Trend hated the Viper but they seemed to like the new baby Jeep, saying, “The Cherokee can compete head to head with any of the modern small crossovers on the road. Off-road, it will bury them.” You can read a summary of some of the other reviews over at Allpar

Jeep Cherokee SRT in the Works

Allpar is reporting that a SRT version of the new Jeep Cherokee is in the works. It will be AWD and with a hopped-up motor and utilize the nine-speed automatic transmission. No word on the engine: could be a Maserati-sourced twin-turbo V6 pushing over 400 hp, or a turbo 3-liter Pentastar V6 producing anywhere from 375 to 410 hp. This would definitely help enhance the image of the new Cherokee and could be a cool little ride if the price was right. Rendering by Suzqo44 at Allpar
