Motor Trend did a comparison between the Wrangler Unlimited Willys Wheeler Edition and the FJ Cruiser Trail Team Ultimate Edition. I’m not saying who wins but this isn’t Toyota Blog. Find the story here. More pics after the jump!
A new suspension for the next rendition of the Jeep Wrangler (2017 model year?) continues to generate stories. Allpar research indicates a possible new long travel independent suspension system based on an old Jeep suspension. Find more detail at Allpar. (The photo is an artists conception of a more aerodynamic Wrangler).
Some tidbits about the next Wrangler, possibly debuting in 2016, include an optional power retractable top, a fixed windshield (to improve safety) and the elimination of the heavy spare tire hanging off the back (to increase fuel economy). There are still rumors of an independent front suspension as well. I’m starting to get a little worried. See more at autoevolution.
Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has confirmed that the new Wrangler will be lighter with a new updated architecture. Purists fear this means no more live front axle. Sales are extremely strong so if it were to adopt an independent front suspension, the reasoning may be to increase Chrysler’s corporate average fuel economy standard. Possibly for the same reason, there are rumors of a diesel option. We’ll know for sure at the unveiling in approx. ten weeks. Read more at Car Buzz.
Jeep will be unveiling their latest special edition Wrangler at the Los Angeles International Auto Show this week. Paying homage to the iconic WWII Willys, it comes with an upgraded Dana 44 rear axle with a Trac-Lok limited-slip differential and 3.73 gears. Tires are LT255/75R17 BF Goodrich KM Mud Terrains. It will be available in both 2 door and 4 door versions. See more at Left Lane News. More pics after the jump.

The next step will be a blown Hemi….just don’t have all the funds for it now with two girls in college and two girls in elementary school!!

Was the speed of approach too fast? This was a brand new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, and so far Jeep is refusing to warranty the wrecked motor. Check out the video after the jump and the forum thread over at Jeep Forum and see what you think. Maybe next time try it with a snorkel? Via Jalopnik
