Ezra Dyer Attempts to Tame the Viper
Automobile magazine contributing writer Ezra Dyer test drove a 2013 Viper. He seems to get that the Viper and Corvette do not run in similar circles. I love his quote, “The difference between the Corvette and the Viper is that the ’Vette wants to be a new Ferrari, while the Viper wants to be a 1965 Shelby Cobra. Either that, or a big rock on a catapult. It hasn’t decided.” Read the entire article at The New York Times.
Autoguide Names the Ram 1500 as Top Truck for 2014
Autoguide has chosen the Ram 1500 as the top truck for 2014. Ram has not been one to shy away from new technology. The industry’s first eight speed transmission and airbag suspension, as well as the first to return to diesel powered half tons, helped to seal top spot. Last place? Ford. See more detail at Allpar.
Roadkill Runs the 24 Hours of Lemons in a 1973 Plymouth Fury
The latest installment of Roadkill has Freiburger and Finnegan competing at the 24 Hours of Lemons in a 1973 Plymouth Fury. I hate to see these boats ending up at demolition derbys and the like (I have a 1974 Fury) but I gotta admit, it’s damn entertaining! Video after the jump!
A New 2014 Chrysler 300S Trim Level
The Chrysler 300, recently revised in 2011, is receiving a new appearance package in 2014 in an effort to keep things fresh. Gloss black is used for the traditionally chrome trim pieces as well as a nice looking Ambassador Blue leather interior. It will be available with both the V6 and V8. 1970 Super Bee Barn Find
It’s gut-wrenching to see classic Mopars slowly turning back to iron ore thanks to the dreaded “owner refuses to sell” scenario. This numbers-matching 1970 Dodge Super Bee is one of the lucky ones and appears to be headed for a restoration. Courtesy of Barn Find Northwest. More pics after the jump!
1965 Dodge Coronet Wagon Sleeper on Craigslist
If a cream colored 1965 Dodge Coronet station wagon pulls up next to you at a light and the engine revs in that tell-tale way indicating that the driver would like to “compare” powertrains, don’t be so quick to take him up on his offer. It might be this guy! Sporting a 600hp 470 stroker wedge with a Cope racing transmission, the car has run a 10.98 at 121mph! Not too bad for a car with a roof rack. See it here at Bring A Trailer. Kenny Wayne Shepherd’s 1972 Charger Stolen
Early morning on November 6, thieves broke into Picture Car Warehouse in the San Fernando Valley and stole five vehicles, including Kenny Wayne Shepherd’s 1972 Dodge Charger. It doesn’t appear that his car was a particular target as the other stolen vehicles included a 2005 Mini Cooper, a BMW M3, a Ford Econoline van, and an F-150 pickup. Three cars have been recovered and two people are in custody. The Charger is not an inconspicuous car, even in LA. It may also have some bodywork damage and yellow paint transfer as it hit a taxi while being stolen from the warehouse. If you spot it, please contact the Los Angeles Police Dept. at 818-374-7611. More info on the heist at Hot Rod.
1968 Plymouth Barracuda Factory B029 for Sale
In a recent post about a Sox and Martin Barracuda that was for sale, I noted that since they only produced about 50 and that “these cars do not become available very often”. OK, I was wrong. While it doesn’t have the provenance of the Sox and Martin car, this non-numbers matching, Ray Barton built Hemi Barracuda is still one to lust after. See the details at Hemmings.
