After several reports that the Avenger was going away, new rumors suggest that the Avenger will live on as a performance-oriented, real wheel drive four door on a platform shared with Alfa Romeo. At the same time, Allpar is saying that Barracuda name will not be making a return. If these rumors are true, I think this is good news. Avenger is a perfectly decent name, and Barracuda makes little sense now that Plymouth is gone.
Jon Sibal’s 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T is probably more famous in the import community that it is in the Mopar community. With the matte black wrap and gold SSR wheels, it has been featured extensively on Speedhunters and of course Jon’s own blog. The Challenger isn’t the only Mopar getting the new supercharged 6.2 liter Hemi. The 2015 Dodge Charger is expected to get it, too, and maybe even the 300C. This Charger was spotted testing the new 6.2 liter Hemi Hellcat recently, along with several Challengers. So if you like four doors, worry not. The Hellcat is coming. Via Allpar
MSN recently published Muscle Cars: 20 That Made History and I counted seven Mopars on their list: 1956 Chrysler 300B, 1968 Plymouth Road Runner, 1968 Dodge Charger, 1970 AMC Rebel Machine, 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, 1970 Plymouth Superbird, 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8. Hmmm, I could probably think of a few more, like the 1968 Hemi Dart, but it’s not a bad start. What do you think?
A large group of SRT cars was recently spotted out testing, including several Challengers prototypes with front bras hiding a revised front fascia for a lower air intake, plus different exhaust. These Challengers are most likely equipped with the new supercharged 6.2-liter “Hellcat” Hemi V8 which will help Mopar compete with the Camaro Z/28 and Mustang GT500. Power is predicted to be in the 600 horsepower range. The Hellcat Challengers are expected in 2014 as a 2015 model. See all the pics at Allpar
