Dick Landy’s 1964 Dodge 330 on Hemmings

For sale – Dick Landy’s 1964 Dodge factory Hemi 330! One of fifty, aluminum-nosed B bodies built with the 426 Hemi engine. This very car won the MP/A class at the Hot Rod Magazine / NHRA race at Riverside held on June 12 -14 1964. This was the first drag win ever for a factory built 426 Hemi car at a major sanctioned race. It is the original body but with a repaint. Original interior except for new carpet. It has a replacement engine but the original 8 3/4 rear end. A definite piece of Mopar history. For sale for the fist time since 1978. See more here at Hemmings. More pictures after the jump!

Vintage Mopar NASCAR Photo of the Week: Cotton Owens at the 67 Daytona Firecracker 400

This photo of the #6 Cotton Owens Dodge Charger at speed was taken at the 1967 Daytona Firecracker 400. The #21 Ford in front is the Wood Brothers car driven by Cale Yarborough who went on to win the race.

Did you know that this was the car used in the Elvis movie Speedway? It is a terrible movie but very 60s. They did all the racing shots on the East Coast and all the close ups were in Hollywood using West Coast racer Jack McCoy’s Charger painted up like the Owens car.

Reader’s Rides: Steven Glassburn’s 1969 Plymouth Road Runner

Check out this tough Road Runner from Tennessee! Steven writes:

Shaved door handled and side lights, trunk lock, replaced with electric poppers. 383 bored and strong out to a 496, 440 source kit, 650 cam, 11 to 1 compression, headers, 3 inch exhaust via Flowmaster all the way to the back. Period “iffy” tunnel ram, twin 600 Holley carbs. Aluminum radiator, plexiglass grill working on a new one. Hand plashed pain, pro engine build rated over 800 hp on nitrous. Looking for a stock hood from a Satellite to put an old school pro stock hood on. 4-speed with 8 3/4″ posi read, 4:11 rear gears. 11″ wide M/T tires on read, 8″ M/T front, handles like it’s on rails. Do have M/T pro streets for rear and skinny fonts if I want to play. Stock bucket seat console interior right mow, carpeted trunk with rear mount batter, MSD ignition, have  a2-stage NOS kit to put on it, engine as is rated at 625 hp. It’s fast. It’s a prize winner at every show.

A 1966 Satellite Named Stormy

You’re looking at a 1966 Plymouth Satellite still wearing it’s groovy lace paint job that was laid down in the mid 1970s. I’m digging the far out Cragars man! Just to make it perfect, it’s a factory Hemi car, topped by two Carter 4-bbls and backed up by an A833 4 speed. Get the details at MoparMax. More pictures after the jump!

The Legendary Road Runner

The Plymouth Road Runner is perhaps my favourite Mopar. Plymouth saw a need in the market place for a muscle car with the emphasis on muscle. Keep it simple, keep it light, keep it cheap. It worked. Sure you could equip it with the Hemi and a whole list of options but even the basic post car with the 383, 4 speed, steel wheels and bench seat just looked “right”. Allpar has done a great write-up on the car. Grab a coffee and read about it here!

Vintage Mopar NASCAR Photo of the Week: James Hylton’s 1965 Dodge Coronet at the 67 Daytona Firecracker 400

This shot of James Hylton’s 1965 Dodge Coronet is from the 1967 Daytona Firecracker 400. James was an independent back in the day and was amazingly successful considering his resources.  He finished second in points that year, losing only to Richard Petty who won 27 races that year.  James didn’t win a single race and still finished second in the points standings. James Hylton is now 79 years old and is still racing!

Also, isn’t it amazing how stock these cars were?  Compare it to what you see now.
