General Lee Places Second in Car and Driver’s Movie Car Comparo

Back in 2007 Car and Driver rounded up some of the most iconic movie cars of all time for a little comparison test. The cars included the Batmobile, the Starsky & Hutch Ford Gran Torino, the Back to the Future De Lorean Time Machine, the Mad Max Ford Falcon Interceptor and of course the General Lee.

The particular General Lee they used for the test was built and owned by John Schneider, who played Bo Duke in the show. John had built the car to drive with a “511-cubic-inch old-style Hemi V-8, Brembo four-wheel disc brakes, a Hotchkiss suspension upgrade, and a Gear Vendors overdrive behind the three-speed automatic transmission.” With 550 hp it had plenty of get up and go. Car and Driver was not impressed by the brakes, though, and it ended up getting second to the Batmobile, because, well, I’m not sure why. Yet Another Weird Daytona Conversion

Ok, so we’ve seen a few odd Daytona conversions lately. There was this 1974 Dodge Charger “Daytona” on Craigslist. Then there was this 1973 Dodge Charger “Daytona” on eBay. But those were both fairly recent. This is an older conversion. It looks like they started with a 1969 Dodge Coronet or Super Bee. This one is seriously 70s funky. These pics are old and no one seems to know what happened to the car. More barn pics after the jump! Via Moparts and Scale Auto Magazine

1967 Plymouth Belvedere Gasser Project

After seeing the crazy red 1967 GTX gasser in Mark’s pics from Mopars in the Park, I got curious to see if I could find any other 66-7 B-body gassers. Well, I found one: this cool Belvedere 2-door sedan. These pics are from 2012, not sure what kind of progress has been made since then but it sure looks cool. More pics after the jump! Vintage Mopar NASCARs To Be Featured at the Concours d’Elegance of America

This year’s Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John’s will feature vintage NASCARs, including several very cool Mopars. Pictured below is the 1970 Plymouth Superbird formerly raced by Ramo Stott, which apparently was the first Superbird to score a victory in a NASCAR-sanctioned event at the 1970 ARCA 300 at Daytona. After the jump I have a pic of a very cool 1972 Dodge Challenger “Kit Car” developed by Petty Enterprises to help aspiring circle track racers. You can read a lot more about these cars and the other non-Mopar NASCARs to be displayed over at Hemmings.

The second Mopar Top Eliminator was selected at the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals this weekend! Just two more winners will be picked this year: a third at the Indianapolis NHRA U.S. Nationals events and a fourth will be selected online. Congrats Bill! More pics after the jump! Via the Mopar Facebook page.

Update: just added some more pics from the thread on dodgecharger.com. Definitely check the thread: sounds like it was a total surprise to Bill!

Shut Down King: Ronnie Sox

BangShift just posted this awesome grainy old school video from 1966. A must-see for any Mopar fan. There’s some footage of the 1966 Winternationals with Ronnie Sox. Then watch a 4-speed Hemi 1966 Plymouth Satellite go up against the best of the era: 1966 Ford Fairlane 390, 1966 Pontiac GTO 389 and 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle 396. Can you guess which wins? Cool Rallye Green A12 Road Runner Project on eBay

You’re looking at a numbers matching 4-speed Rallye Green 1969 1/2 Plymouth Road Runner. It originally came with a white top and white interior. How cool is that? Yes, it is rough–just look at the shot of the door after the jump–and probably overpriced, but it would be an awesome project for someone–it could end up looking like this when done. It didn’t sell on eBay for the $35,000 Buy It Now, and apparently it is now sitting at Carlisle with a $39,000 asking price. More pics after the jump!

1973 Dodge Charger “Daytona” on eBay

Here’s another weird Daytona conversion for you guys. Two weeks ago I showed you this 1974 Dodge Charger “Daytona” on Craigslist. Well here’s a ’73 that was listed on eBay last week. Looks like it was bid up to $4,000 with the reserve not met. I don’t know, I’m thinking the seller should have taken the money and run. Check out more pics after the jump, including pics of the interior with what looks like an A-body center console.
