Reader’s Rides: Mike Moreck’s 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger

Today’s reader’s ride is a burly 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger built and owned by Mike Moreck from Akron, Ohio. Here’s the word from Mike:

The older pics are up until 2008, when we won the Chryler Classic series Pro Class. The later pics are body work and paint in the body shop, the next ones are in the shop at work covering overspray and blacking out anything in the wheel wells, and the last ones are the finishing touches. All the body and paint work was performed at my place of employment, Ohio Technical College, by students, and the engine assembly was performed by myself and several students in the High Performance course over the last year. The mechanicals include a 360 block .060 over bored with a 4″ stroke crank making 414 cid.A 727 reverse manual valve body transmission and a Mopar 8.75 rear end with 4:56 gears. If you need more info, send me a message.

Yet Another Weird Daytona Conversion

Ok, so we’ve seen a few odd Daytona conversions lately. There was this 1974 Dodge Charger “Daytona” on Craigslist. Then there was this 1973 Dodge Charger “Daytona” on eBay. But those were both fairly recent. This is an older conversion. It looks like they started with a 1969 Dodge Coronet or Super Bee. This one is seriously 70s funky. These pics are old and no one seems to know what happened to the car. More barn pics after the jump! Via Moparts and Scale Auto Magazine

Vintage Mopar NASCARs To Be Featured at the Concours d’Elegance of America

This year’s Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John’s will feature vintage NASCARs, including several very cool Mopars. Pictured below is the 1970 Plymouth Superbird formerly raced by Ramo Stott, which apparently was the first Superbird to score a victory in a NASCAR-sanctioned event at the 1970 ARCA 300 at Daytona. After the jump I have a pic of a very cool 1972 Dodge Challenger “Kit Car” developed by Petty Enterprises to help aspiring circle track racers. You can read a lot more about these cars and the other non-Mopar NASCARs to be displayed over at Hemmings.

Reader’s Rides: Chris Green’s POW MIA Dodge Charger R/T

Chris Green is in the Coast Guard Reserves and is currently re-called on active duty orders. And he is the creator of this very special 2007 Dodge Charger R/T. Here’s the word from Chris:

I designed the car myself and did most of the work to it as well. My great uncle was a POW during WWII in the Bataan death March. So I did a tribute car for him and others like him. I embedded the 5 branches of service challenge coins in the doors and engine cover myself. The wheels I had custom painted. The graphics are decals right now because I wanted to make sure I liked how it looked on the car before having it painted. It will get painted in the near future. I started this project September of 2010 I have escorted 3 MIA remains during the funeral precession, in front of the hearse to the grave side. Attended several events, car shows and parades with the car.

More pics after the jump, and be sure to like the POW MIA Dodge Charger R/T Facebook page!

Running on Empty 1970 Dodge Challenger on eBay

Running on Empty is an Australian cult car movie from 1982 which featured a pretty wild 1970 Dodge Challenger. Well, that car is on eBay now, and the seller claims it’s a numbers matching 440 6-pack car, too! Obviously it’s a right-hand drive car, and the Buy It Now is $149,000 Australian (about $137,000 US dollars). Lots more pics after the jump, along with the original movie, which someone uploaded to YouTube in its entirety. So check out the pics and then make some popcorn and watch!
