Mr. Norm’s Hemi Dart Crosses the Auction Floor

At Mecum’s Illinois auction last week, a 1968 Hemi Dart that was sold new through Mr. Norm’s Chicago dealership 45 years ago sold for $125,000. Chrysler produced 80 Hemi Darts in 1968 with the help of Hurst, and Norm Krause’s Grand Spaulding Dodge dealership reportedly sold 13 of them! These were lightweight cars made for one purpose–to own the drag strip. A Hemi said to be pushing 600 hp in a 3150 lb car? Yep, sounds about right! Read more at StreetLegalTV. My 4-Speed 1969 Dart GTS 340

The story starts in 1968 when a new 1969 Dart GTS, 340/4 speed car with a console tachometer is ordered up. By 1970 it is being raced with the 340/4 speed in it, and was repainted white and green with mags on it. In the early 1970s my grandfather ended up getting it and turning the car into a all out drag car with a mild 318 and 727. By the 2000s the car was retired and was a roller. A couple years back I ended up getting the roller and built a 1971 340 for it that is .30 over, 10.5:1cr, j headed (for now), .480 Cam Dynamics camshaft (for now). Future plans are to install a .590 Solid Roller camshaft along with a pair of ported and polished heads. More pics after the jump!

1970 Challenger T/A Super Stock Survivor on Ebay

This 1970 Challenger T/A is still wearing the same paint job it raced with in 1970. With only 3,103 miles, most everything else is original too! Immediately after it was purchased, it was prepared for the drag strip. Apparently, due to a falling out between the owner and the builder, the car’s track days were very limited. The paint, the rake, the wheels and tires–just perfect. See it here on eBay. More pictures after the jump!

Drag Strip Testing SRT Cars

Did you know that SRT puts its new cars through a rigorous test involving 100 runs at the drag strip in a single day?

Pass after pass completed until 50 is reached on three-season tires. Then drag tires are put on and the race to 50 begins again. This is all accomplished in a single day at the track.

This helps ensure that the drivetrain components are up the the task, and help Mopars dominate at the drag strip. Read the full article at DriveSRT.com
