The eight speed transmission did wonders for some of the big RWD Mopars in terms of gas mileage and performance. And a new nine speed is slated for cars like the Dart and the new Cherokee pictured below. Chrysler just announced that they are investing $20 million to increase capacity at the Toledo Machining Plant for the torque converter they are machining for the nine-speed transmission. Fiat Looking to Purchase Remaining 41.5 Percent Stake in Chrysler
Fiat and the UAW are in court, waiting for a decision on how to proceed with regards to the remaining 41.5 percent stake in Chrysler, currently held by the union’s VEBA retiree trust. Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne is considering purchasing the rest of Chrysler and then issuing an IPO to cover the costs. More at Autoblog
