Reader’s Rides: David Perahia’s 1971 Plymouth Road Runner

Check out this sweet B-body, nicknamed “Man O’ War.” Here’s the word from David:

This 1971 Plymouth Road Runner had a Total rotisserie restoration completed approximately three years ago(The car has been kept inside since then). Originally a 383 car but now has a stock 440 cid with a mopar purple cam shaft for higher lift and duration. It has a balanced steel crank that is magnafluxed, cross drilled and polished, 8 ¾ rear end with 4:10 gears, slap stick auto, following items are new – wiring harness, interior, dash pad, battery, Hooker headers, power steering pump with cooler, fuel pump, tires and 15” rally wheels with trim rings, front disk brakes, all brake lines, dual exhaust with factory red slotted exhaust tips, tail light lens, u-joints, belts and hoses, all rubber/weather strips/bumpers etc; go wing, front/rear bumpers, along with rebuilt high performance transmission that includes a stall converter. Absolutely no leaks. This car carries a beautiful sassy grass green paint. The car looks factory new for the interior, exterior, AND ENTIRE UNDERCARRIAGE to display the car with mirrors in car shows.

The Legendary Road Runner

The Plymouth Road Runner is perhaps my favourite Mopar. Plymouth saw a need in the market place for a muscle car with the emphasis on muscle. Keep it simple, keep it light, keep it cheap. It worked. Sure you could equip it with the Hemi and a whole list of options but even the basic post car with the 383, 4 speed, steel wheels and bench seat just looked “right”. Allpar has done a great write-up on the car. Grab a coffee and read about it here!

Violent Valiant

Bangshift, along with Hot Rod Chassis and Cycle in Addison, Illinois, have started a build they have named Project Violent Valiant. The plan is a 1964 Pro-Touring ’64 Valiant sporting a “biggish inch” Chrysler wedge engine with Hilborn fuel injection and backed up by a Tremec stick box. Per Bangshift, “This machine will be a purpose built car with all the flavor of a vintage Trans-Am racer packing the modern technology that’ll make it corner and stop hard enough to make the asphalt beneath its tires scream for mercy.” Sounds evil! Find details here at Bangshift. They promise weekly updates of the build.

Vintage Mopar NASCAR Photo of the Week: Richard Petty’s 67 Plymouth Belvedere at Bristol Speedway

We have another great vintage Richard Petty photo this week. The picture is from the 1967 Bristol race, most likely the spring one. The car is up on jack stands and even in the B&W picture you can tell it has chrome rims. The car is also pretty naked of stickers so you can tell this is from practice a day or two before the actual race.

Jesse James’ 1969 Plymouth Road Runner on eBay

Not sure when Sandra Bullock’s ex-husband/West Coast Choppers guy Jesse James got this Road Runner or whether he ever did anything with it, but it is kind of cool, in a junky, funky retro drag-car kinda way. Claimed to have once been a “ten second car,” though “stoner’s dream car” seems like a more accurate description. Wonder what it will go for? eBay ad text plus tons of pics after the jump!

1968 Sox and Martin Barracuda for Sale

An actual 1968 Plymouth Barracuda once owned by Sox and Martin is for sale! It was the last car actually raced by Sox with documentation to prove it. It is 1 of only 50 factory-made drag cars meant for the elite teams. These cars do not become available very often. This is a true piece of Mopar history. Albeit, one at a quarter of a million dollars. See the listing at RPM Motor Cars with more info on the car atStreet Legal TV. And be sure to check out more pictures after the jump!
