SRT Viper Burns up Sebring

The recent running of the 12 hours of Sebring brought SRT some limited success with the number 93 Viper GTS-R finishing second in the GTLM class. The number 91 Viper finished seventh. The 13th lap saw Viper pilot Ben Keating’s car ignite after what appears to be a fuel leak. No injuries were reported and the fire crew learned to always park upwind of a burning car. Viper Vin #4 To Be Crushed. Sign the Petition to Save It!

Remember this video we posted in January of a Viper being destroyed? Well it wasn’t the first and it won’t be the last. According to Jalopnik, Fiat-Chrysler plans to destroy 93 of the first Dodge Vipers ever built. These are mostly pre-production vehicles, and many had been donated to educational programs. But they are a liability, so Fiat-Chrysler wants them gone. Next up is Vin #4 (pictured below). Want to save it? Sign the petition!

Collectible Car of the Future: SRT Viper

Each year, the National Automotive History Collection (NAHC) selects what it deems will be the collectible car of the future. “We ask our members to predict which of the year’s new vehicles will command the highest attention at Detroit’s famous Woodward Dream Cruise 25 years from now,” Charles K. Hyde, president of the NAHC Board of Trustees said. This is the third time the Viper has won the award. One more reason to own one! Find more info at Cars and Parts.

Entry-Level Viper? Fuhgedaboutit!

Ralph Gilles continues to insist that the Viper does not compete with the Corvette. While there are rumors of a lower priced entry-level Corvette, the SRT boss insists that there is no such plan for the Viper. Regarding a slushbox: “The people who buy (the Viper) relish the manual, they relish the driver’s car, the raw connections to the vehicle. That is what it is about. So we are not chasing rainbows here.” About dropping in the 6.4L Hemi? “It sounds like you are describing a Corvette. We have no interest in becoming a Corvette because what is unique about the Viper is that engine is in nothing else.” Crystal clear. See more at CarBuzz. More pics after the jump!
