The guys over at Hot Rod Magazine are working with Intellichoice’s Real MPG powered by Chevron to get baseline MPG numbers for their 1968 Plymouth GTX. It’s a fairly stock 4-speed car (though it’s running a 800cfm Edelbrock Thunder AVS carb). Just 41,000 miles on the odometer. Guess what the MPG is and then check your answer (and see more pics) after the jump!

Roadkill Builds a Mad Max Style 1968 Charger
You were expecting a concours restoration, maybe? The latest episode of Hot Rod’s Roadkill finds Freiburger and Finnegan building a Charger from a rolling shell, a motorhome 440 and their Fury’s 727. It took six months–not their usual six days–and in their opinion, it’s the best episode of Roadkill ever. It looks mean and sounds meaner. Video after the jump!

Word is that the powertrain is staying. Good. I think it would draw more attention than one equipped with a crate Hemi. See more detail and a history of the Charger at Curbside Classics. 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Factory B029 for Sale
In a recent post about a Sox and Martin Barracuda that was for sale, I noted that since they only produced about 50 and that “these cars do not become available very often”. OK, I was wrong. While it doesn’t have the provenance of the Sox and Martin car, this non-numbers matching, Ray Barton built Hemi Barracuda is still one to lust after. See the details at Hemmings. Mr. Norm’s Hemi Dart Crosses the Auction Floor
At Mecum’s Illinois auction last week, a 1968 Hemi Dart that was sold new through Mr. Norm’s Chicago dealership 45 years ago sold for $125,000. Chrysler produced 80 Hemi Darts in 1968 with the help of Hurst, and Norm Krause’s Grand Spaulding Dodge dealership reportedly sold 13 of them! These were lightweight cars made for one purpose–to own the drag strip. A Hemi said to be pushing 600 hp in a 3150 lb car? Yep, sounds about right! Read more at StreetLegalTV.
